A river in the Kongu region, which once fostered a civilisation, has gone dry

Kousika originates from Kurudimalai and traverses 52 km after streams from the hills merge with it near the foothills. One of the rivulet tributaries is blocked by brick kilns in Thadagam valley. The river also faces interruptions from encroachments throughout its course in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts. The river has a catchment of 525 sq. km
